I love the the transparency and vibrancy of colours that glass offers. The fusing process and glass media present endless possibilities and my scientific background means that I am always searching for new techniques and processes to experiment with. So, glass fusing keeps my hands and my brain engaged, providing moments of intense mindfulness and enjoyment. I like making bowls and dishes, but I find drapes and drop out vessels a lot more exciting. You can see all the stages of creating a bowl from plain glass to finished piece on my Studio page.
I loved making this piece for a very special commission - I hope you love it too!
Decorated with iridised glass in amber tones, each piece was hand cut and the edges polished and outlined. It depicts butterfly and dragonfly wing themes, hand painted with 18k gold lustre. The dish was fired numerous times to compose all the elements, resulting in a beautiful piece that shimmers in different gold tones depending on the light. It took 5 weeks from concept to completion.
